An all around update: Shooting has been slow, but I’m glad to have time to adjust a bit and get comfortable in my own skin and get to know the people. I’ve been hanging out mostly with the guys I am here to film. They’re truly amazing people and it’s hard to believe they were serious gangbangers. And I mean serious. I’ve heard some stories. Going out with them means going to taxi bars, which are small bars with a dozen or more girls who grope you and ask me “why you no take me home?” and “what if you take two girl?” They almost make you feel guilty for not wanting to sleep with them and act offended as if they weren’t pretty enough, which is certainly not the case as all the are beautiful. Then we go to karaoke. Same situation, but you’re in a private room with terrible music. Plus, you have to choose a girl from a lineup to sit with you. I suppose you don’t have to, but I’m hanging with these guys, so when in Rome… I get around on the back of a moto, which is essentially a scooter. I should buy a helmet as it is a dare-devil feat just driving down the street. While filming I usually go with the guys to particularly poor, drug using neighborhoods. Some of them look straight out of a “save the children” commercial. I’ve seen people shooting heroin in their neck whilst sitting in a pile of trash. I’ve even seen a policeman smoking Yama (similar to meth) while in uniform. A crazy place for sure. Everyone can feel free to call me as I have a phone now. Just pick up a calling card. The country code is 855 and my number is: 012 393 714 No, there are no missing numbers. You can also text me. Just string all those numbers together and put a plus sign in front. At least I’ve been told that works. More updates to follow.
